A rapid infrared method for measuring hydroxyl value in industrial fatty oils
Abstract
A rapid infrared method has been developed to measure with precision the hydroxyl value in industrial lubricating oils containing different fatty materials, e.g. octyl, laury and cetyl alcohols or hydroxyl stearic acid. The results showed a good correlation between hydroxyl value and infrared absorbance at two wave numbers, 1100-1000 and 3500-3300 cm-1.
Keywords
-OH content; hydroxyl value; industrial oils; infrared absorbance.
