Abstract

A very sensitive analytical method for the determination of mercury(II) after extraction of its bromide-rhodamine 6G complex into benzene has been developed. The optimum pH range for the extraction is 0.5-4.5. The molar absorptivity and Sandell sensitivity arc 8.2 X 10' I.mole^-1 .cm^-1 and 2.5 ng respectively. The interference ofvarious ions has been studied. The method is applicable to the determination of mercury in coal and sea water.

Keywords
