ANTIBIOTIC PRINCIPLE OF ALLIUM SATIVUM - The Structure of Allicin ; Preparation and Properties of Diphenyl Disulphide Oxide
Abstract
The constitution of allicin, the antibiotic principle of Allium sativum is discussed and a diallyl disulphidc oxide structure is suggested in place of the diallyl thiolsulphinate formulation by Cavallito and co-workers. The aromatic analogue diphenyl disulphide oxide has been prepared and its properties are recorded. The antibacterial activity of a few sulphurcontaining substances is given.
