ULTRASONIC VELOCITIES IN SOME BI-UNIVALENT ELECTROLYTES

C G BALACHANDRAN

Abstract

Ultrasonic velocities and their variation with concentration up to 1Molar have been measured for aqueous solutions of strontium iodide, lead acetate, uranyl chloride and uranyl nitrate at three different temperatures, viz.,25° C, 40° C. and 60° C. From the values of the velocities the apparent molar compressibilities have been calculated. The effect of incomplete dissociation and formation of complex ions, on the slope of the apparent molar compressibility vs. square root of concentration curve, is discussed.
