Photometric study of manganese and potassium dichromate reaction in strong sulphuric acid medium
Abstract
The versatility of chromium(VI) as an oxidant in high sulphuric acid medium for the oxidation of manganese( II) to manganese(III) is discussed. The effective oxidizing power of chromium(VI) depended on the concentration of the acid. The reaction between snanganese(I) and chromium(VI) in an acid concentration of 11-0-12-0 M was found to be rapid to start with, but the oxidation is quantitative and romilete only after 4 hours time. The wine-red coloured manganese(III)-sulphate complex is stable for over a week.
