SPACE CHARGE EFFECTS IN A PROPORTIONAL COUNTER

Abstract


From the known characteristics of the space charge, an expression for the gas multiplication in a proportional counter is derived as a function of the primary ionisation. The results are applied to the case of alpha and beta particle pulses.
