DIMETHYL 2-PHENYL-1, 1-CYCLOBUTANE - AND CYCLOHEXANEDICARBOXYLATES AND RELATED COMPOUNDS. NMR EVIDENCE FOR THE GREATER PROXIMITY OF THE 1, 2-CIS- GROUPS OF THE CYCLOBUTANE SERIES

Abstract

Based mainly on the relative chemical shift data of ester methyl protons,  it has been shown that the  1, 2-cis  groups  (Ph, CO 2 Me  and  H, CO 2 Me)  of  dimethyl 2-phenyl-I, 1-cyclobutanedicarboxylate and related compounds are more  convergent and the I,  2-trans  groups  (Ph, CO 2 Me)  are more divet gent than in  the corresponding cyclohexane compounds
