MESOMERIC MOMENTS AND STRUCTURE OF SOME ORGANIC MOLECULES

Abstract

Mesomeric moments have been derived for a number of simple aromatic molecules, as a difference between the moment calculated for the corresponding aliphatic analogue using the method of Smith, Ree, Magee and Erying and the observed moment of the phenyl or diphenyl derivative. The structure of the aromatic molecules have been discussed in terms of the positive and negative mesomeric effects that operate in such systems.
