SIMPLE KINEMATIC BI-AXIAL TRANSLATION STAGE

Abstract

The principles of kinematical- design are applied to the design and fabrication of a hi-oxial translation stage, resulting  will a low-profile stage. Three designs are shown. The motion of the stages has been checked using autocollimators. The undesirable degrees of freedom are largely rotations about the three coordinate axes. For the best design it seldom exceeds one minute of arc. The performance of the stages is analysed by drawing the hysteresis loops for the motion of the stages. The experimental techniques effectively point out the errors in design and manufacture. It is shown how it is possible to remedy some of the common errors.
