2, 6-DIMETHYLPYRIDINE-I-OXIDE COMPLEXES OF RARE-EARTH PERCHLORATES

Abstract


Complexes of of rare-earth perchlorates with  2, 6-dimethylpyridine-1-oxide  (2, 6-Lutidine-N-oxide LutNO) of the general formulae, Ln (LutNO)4 (ClO4)3 2H2O where Ln, La, Pr and Nd and Ln(LutNo)3(ClO)3 (ClO4)3 where Ln… Xm, Ho, Er, Yb and Y have been prepared and characterized by chemical analysis, infrared and conductance data. Infrared and conductance data show that two perchlorate groupls are coordinated to the metal in all the complexes. Conductance data show that in La, Pr and Nd complexes the two coordinated perchlorate groups are equivalent and in the rest the two are differently bound to the metal. The results have been interpreted in terms of an octahedral structure for La, Pr and Nd complexes and an octahedral bridge structure involving the oxygen atom of the N-O groups for the rest of the complexes.
