ANALYSIS OF AN AXIALLY IRRADIATED PHOTOCHEMICAL REACTOR.
Abstract
An idealised analysis has been presented for as yet unexplored axially irradiated photoreactor in its two natural configurations. Reactant mixing and levelling of radiation intensity gradient (which may or may not be interrelated, depending on the nature of photochemical reaction considered) in the direction of irradiation, have been already shown to always improve the performance of a transversely irradiated photoreactor. when mixing at all has any effect on the performance. It is concluded from the present analysis that for the axially irradiated reactor, however, mixing effects are not always beneficial.Potentials for the industrial use of such a reactor in certain cases and possibility for its use in laboratory kinetic studies have been indicated.
