Cobalt carbonyls : A versatile reagent and catalyst in organic synthesis

Abstract

Cobalt carbonyls are versatile reagents for the insertion of carbon monoxide between carbon-cobalt bond. this methodology has been utilized for the synthesis of some naturally occuring compounds. In this review,cobalt carbonyl-mediated novel reactions(2+2+1 and 2+2+2 cycloadditions reactions,Nicholas reactions,carbonylation reactions,etc) have been discussed.Mechanisms of these reactions have also been presented.
