CIRCULAR PAPER CHROMATOGRAPHY Part III. Rf Values of Amino Acids and Peptides.
TARA RAO, K V GIRI
Abstract
- The Rf values on circular filter-paper chromatograms of a number of amino acids in various solvents have been determined. The follow- ing solvent mixtures have been studied: n-Butanol-acetic acid-water, phenol water, mesityl oxide-formic acid and aqueous acetone.
- The influence of concentration of amino acids, the distance of the solvent boundary and the distance of the initial spot from the centre of the filter-paper, and temperature on the Rf values have been studied.
- The Rf values of some of the peptides in n-butanol-water solvent mixture are given.
- The influence of various factors involved in the movement of amino acids on circular paper chromatograms and the mechanism of chromatographic separation of the amino acids in the light of the results obtained in the present investigation are discussed.
