Progress of research on the Raman effect: A statistical analysis

Abstract


The progress of research on the Raman effect is very briefly  reviewed from 1928,the year ofthe discovery to the present day. The total number of publications which exceeds 23,600 upto the  end of 1978, has been stastistically analysed year-wise, country-wise and subject-wise. The two Raman revolutions that have taken place in the Sixties and Seventies have been satisfactorily accepted for. A glossary of different types of Raman excitations is appended.
