Melittopalynology of the agricultural tracts in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh

Abstract


The paper deals with the study of pollen analysis of 12 extracted (apary) honey samples from agricultural areas of Tenala, Bapatla and Repalle mandals. Guntur district, Andra Pradesh. Seven of the samples were found to be uniflora and five multifloral honeys. Mimosa pudica (53.6 degrees, 49.8 degrees and 49.6 degrees) formed the predominant pollen type in the three samples while Spandus emargnatus (70.16 degrees and 63.0 degrees) in two samples; Capsicum jrutescens (60.2 degrees) and Prospy juliflora (58.2 degrees) represent the predominant pollen types in one sample each. A total types referable to 38 families have been recorded in these honey samples. Cucumis sp. Phonix sylvestris, Hygroplula sp., Sopubia delphnifolra sp., Brassia nigra, Cleome gynandra, Phyla nodiflora, Momordica charanna, Rictnus conminis, Tradax procmber and Citrus lemon are significant pollen types in these honeys other than the predominant ones.
