Abstract

Efficient construction of C–X (X = C and heteroatom) bonds in chemo- and regioselective fashion poses a perennial challenge in the world of organic synthesis, particularly in the context of drug discovery. Towards this end, the transition metals provide a viable solution, being adept in catalytic bond formation under amenable conditions. Our efforts in designing late-transition catalysts, based on N/O-functionalized N-heterocyclic carbenes, are discussed for a variety of synthetically useful organic transformations.
