Microbial degradation Of substituted benzoic acids
Abstract
A brief note on the role of molecular oxygen in the degradation of aromatic compounds is given. Pathways for tile degradation of benzoic acid, hydroxybenzoic acids, methoxybenzoicacids, aminobenzoic acids, alkylbenzoic phthaic acids, halogenated benzoic acids are discussed in detail. The nature and role of the enzymes involved in the degradation of these compounds is discussed. A summary of the aromatic ring cleavage reactions occurring in microorganisms and the enzymes responsible for these reactions is given.
Keywords
