Periphytic algal flora of Phragmites communis Trin.

Abstract

The paper describes the distribution and community structure of periphyton on Phragmites communis Tri. in three Kashmir Himalayan Valley lakes. One hundred and six taxa, representing seven algal classes, were recorded, of which 62 were common to the lakes. Numerically Bacillariophyceae was dommant both in terms of the number of taxa and abundance. Its contribution to the total population density was almost always more than 50%.
