STUDIES ON THE BASIC CARBONATES OF NICKEL Part III: Potentiometric Study of Precipitation
Abstract
The potentiometric method has been adopted till follow the precipitation of basic nickel carbonates during the addition of an alkali carbonate to a nickel salt inaqueous medium. The pH-titration curves obtained are found to correspond to the neutralization of carbonic acid. The results are interpreted on the basis of the hydrolysis of nickel carbonate. NiC03 , to yield carbonic acid which is neutralized by the sodium hydroxide liberated during the hydrolysis of sodium carbonate. On this basis a method has been outlined for computing the compositionsm of precipitated basic salts from a knowledge of the amount of the rmetal precipitated understandard conditions at each molar ratio of the reactants and the corresponding pH of the medium.
